HUNGARIAN LOTTERIES IS EXPANDING ITS PRODUCT PORTFOLIO WITH E-SCRATCH CARDS

2020.12.02.

The National Lottery Company started to sell its latest e-scratch card product from 27 October. The nine different scratch cards available around the clock on any digital device offer a brand-new game experience for players thanks to the simplicity of use, speed and the virtual scratch objects specifically designed for the game. The National Lottery Company has responded to the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic by bringing several product launches ahead, this introduction of the e-scratch cards being the second such step after the introduction of e-betting.

Szerencsejáték Zrt. has responded to the coronavirus pandemic by expanding its portfolio with another product; from October 27, 2020, scratch cards so far sold exclusively offline can also be purchased online. Thanks to the extremely short product development phase, all the games offered by company are now available and playable on digital platforms. The goal of the national lottery company with the introduction of the new product range is to satisfy new player needs and to increase the company's competitiveness against gambling organizers operating without a license in Hungary.

Beside the print scratch cards still being sold now, the company is now also offering the digital version of popular scratch card games of the past, which are no longer available commercially. Players can now choose from the online version of nine popular scratch cards - Blackjack, Fáraók Kincse (the Pharaoh’s Treasure), Bronz (Bronze), Pénzlift (Money Lift), Sok szeretettel (With lots of love), Szerencsemalac (Lucky charm piglet), Labirintus (Labyrinth), Nyerőkártya (Winning card) and Tengeri kincsek (Sunken treasures) during the first phase of the market introduction, which they can access on diverse platforms like desktop computers, laptops, tablets or even smartphones. Apart from the usual game experience, customers purchasing the e-scratch cards can also choose several virtual scratch objects (i.e., a coin, a key, a cat’s paw), each of which also have a unique sound effect associated with them.

Comparing several years of research data on e-scratch cards, Szerencsejáték Zrt. has found that about 18% of their respondents have already heard about e-scratch cards. Interestingly, the interest in scratch cards among the 18-25-year-old age group (among whom our scratch cards are already popular) is the highest among those, who show an affinity for online games.
As with previous product launches, the national lottery company pays special attention to the principles of responsible gaming when selling e-scratch cards. The product can only be sold to players over the age of 18 with a time limit, i.e., e-scratch cards can be purchased one-by-one, every 30 seconds or more. In addition, the protection of players is also ensured by a number of self-imposed limitation options for spending and internal top-up limits, which have already been tested in other online games of Szerencsejáték Zrt. According to the GAM-GaRD international responsible gaming rating system assessment, the e-scratch cards are also a medium-risk game just like traditional cards.
